Halloween originated in
the ancient Ireland to mark the end of the summer and the onset of the winter, which
was celebrated with feasting, bonfires, sacrificial offerings, and homage to
the dead. It was by far the most important of the four quarter days in
the medieval Irish calendar, and there was a sense that this was the time of
year when the physical and the supernatural worlds were closest and magical
things could happen.
Why do kids go treat-or-trick
on Halloween?
This goes back to the medieval
practices of going “Mumming” -merrymaking in a
costume- and going “souling” -begging for cakes in remembrance
of the dead- on the eves of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Mumming took the
form of wearing costumes, chanting, singing, play-acting, and general mischief
making, while souling entailed going door to door and offering prayers for the
dead in exchange for treats.
WE CELEBRATED TOGETHER AND THIS IS WHAT WE DID:
FIRST, WE PLAYED HALLOWEEN MEMOTEST IN OUR CLASSROOM AND GHOST LUCIO KEPT SCORE!
THERE WERE MONSTERS, VAMPIRES...
...AND WITCHES TOO!!!
LATER, WE WENT TO THE BREAK...
AND THEN, WE PLAYED GAMES WITH 1° B AND 2°B! IT WAS SUPER FUN!
